I agree with some of what your saying. I own all consoles and can see the difference but if your talking about ignorance I'd say the guilty party is not the wii owners but the 360/ps3 fans. The wii and its games are bashed by people who have never played the system it is hardly fair.
As for your sales figures you have a point. To me it fails though when you consider the majority of those sales occured in 2007 when the wii's marketshare was low (from 10% and as sales increased u...
How about none of them get bashed? None of them deserve it.
Everyone except nintendo it seems!
'I try to look beyond the numbers to contemplate the "why" of what we're seeing. PS3 sales looked good in 2007, selling neck and neck with the 360 during the year so a year over year increase of 40% is nothing to sneeze at. When the PS3 hit 17 million by their second year anniversary (vs the 13 million the 360 did) it became evident that the PS3 is catching on far faster than the 360 ever did.'
-I agree with some parts of what you are saying but I don't share you doom...
Are you this developer? You seem to have the same literary intellect :)
j/k :)
I know the wii isn't next gen. Its current gen just like the ps3 and 360. if a developer cannot comprehend this then I am ashamed that such fanboyism and idiotism is around in the industry. Oh well, all the developer has achieved is not getting my money. Well done. He should be in line for a promotion :)
becuase Germany isn't feeling the effects of the recession at all are they? Sigh.
with his cherrypicking charts. POG - the 2 consoles are even in Europe and the 360 is not dead there. Both are doing fine. How about we get some proper GFK charts for all regions then we can determine this for sure. Do that and we will have real Europewide figures where a conclusion can be based off instead of 1 coutries data which will just lead to fanboy wars.
'If the recession was slowing down sales, revenue didn't show that. Revenue and sales were up for MS during this last quarter but profit was dramatcially down.'
-Ah I thought revenue was down too (I held this assumptions based off the article I haven't kept up to date with MS position in the last few weeks.) Even so it is no surprise that profits were down as they were selling their console and a far tighter profit margin than previously. The 360 took an age to have a price cut...
well i've been away for a week so i'm not up to date on the news but I was aware MS released info on the 22nd.
You do have a valid point about MS sales and revenues but then I could point you to the recession htat is especially affecting MS's strongest market. Although their game library doesn't beat sony's from what we know so far the 360 still has a fantastic back catalog of games that will sit on shelves and convince people to buy the console.
But then again ...
Sony and Microsoft haven't even released their financials and this idiot is comparing their revenues. Not that revenues is what really matters, personally i'd prefer profits if I was in business but hey what am I thinking? Does the 'author' not realise that just because MS cut the price of their consoles they can still increase profits by bringing down the cost of making the console and thus selling more at a comparable profit? Yes cutting the price will likely have affected MS revenues abit ...
and when sony do too I suppose you mean. Look at sony's financials and you will see that the ps2 is at 130 million worldwide.
And to the op. My god. You have some good points but some very bad ones. The ps3 been out less than a year in europe? Its getting on for 2 years now.
'There is more demand for the ps3'.
No because the 360 is outselling it. I agree there would be if the ps3 cut the price but at this price its not. The 360 has more efffective demand...
its not difficult math but the problem is that many people on here doon't want to believe it and make up excuses such as sony count sold (haha) and MS fabricates numbers/uses RROD. Even if MS 'wins' this generation against the ps3 people will always make excuses because they cannot fathom anyhting otherwise.
the 4th quarter refers to january - march
*facepalm*
Maybe in shipped numbers but even then they would have to have stuffed the chanels to reach that. They have said they expect to shift just under 23 million by the end of march and you think that number? Please :/
it cannot afford to. The ps3 is expensive to produce and the yen has crippled the value of their exports. When they break even later this year then they will have the option to cut the price.
As for sales it is obvvious that at the end of the year sony had shipped 20 million whilst microsoft had shipped 28 million hence the 8 million lead.
yeah I get you point about people buying ps2's for fifa - I saw that alot last gen! But if they are casual, they won't care about brand they will care about price and it is here that the 360 and wii will always 1up the ps3. If I was buying a console to just play a few games I wouldn't buy the most expensive one.
The ps3's awesome lineup will convince the hardcore to buy it - the people found on here - but for awesome sales the ps3 needs to attract the people who don't play game...
last gen ps2 owners want the wii more than the ps3 or 360. You think it was the hardcore that made up the ps2 numbers? No it was the 100 million casual gamers that are now mesmerised by the wii. Sorry but it just ain't gonna happen. I live in europe and I just see the wii dominating. In my local game store the wii has 5 shelves, the ds has 4, the 360 and ps3 and ps2 have 2 shelves and the psp has 1. Domination will not come with killzone. What will come is an awesome game that should make you...
not to take sides here but unless you can show me how EVERYONE in Europe wants a ps3 you fail. Seriously. The problem with sony this gen to me is that they constantly overestimate the potential of the console. The ps3 is doing fine but the unrealistic expectations you sony fanboys have put on make it look like a failure when in truth it never had the chance to dominate like you said it would. It simply won't dominate this gen, the wii is the casual ps2 console this gen I don't see how you can...
then
2007:Nintendo
2008:Nintendo
2009:Will be nintendo.
As for games well its all subjective. I'd say;
2007:Nintendo
2008:Sony
2009:Who knows yet there is so much unannounced.
EDIT:@above - Mario Kart wii the worst MK ever?! Blasphemy! I don't know where you got that from as it is generally regarded as the best ever.
Also I'm not regretting my choice of the wii. I have all consoles and unli...
